"affirming LIFE! - McLean, VA - I am a triple positive breast cancer survivor who just finished one year of treatment. Between a substantial weight loss (before diagnosis) and cancer treatment itself, I feel like I aged ten years. I have chosen to get a breast symmetry procedure (breast lift/reduction), SMAS facelift with platysmal tightening, upper & lower eyelift, and fat grafting to my mid face. A couple of months later I plan to have liposuction just of my saddle bag areas as there is no exercise regime that will remove that fat and I have had it all my life even when I weighed 120 (I am 5'7"). In addition to surgery, I have started using tretinoin & doing a short course of hydroquinone. I am relearning how to use makeup -- or actually how to use it correctly since I always wore too much. And I have had 1 of 2 Picosure treatments on my face, arms, & hands. My only question is if there are any breast cancer survivors who chose to have major cosmetic work done after cancer treatment. All together this is quite expensive and I know that no one can promise me that I won't get cancer again but I am just looking for some support and validation that I am not completely out of my mind because I could have a cancer recurrence. I mean it would be silly to spend all this money and then die in a year. I just thought I would dedicate this year to complete renewal & rejuvenation in every area of my life. My appearance is just one area. Overall health, business, spirituality, relationships, home, etc. are also on this rejuvenation plan. I just want to take care of myself, honor myself, be kind to myself, value myself because life is short & I have let myself go for too long (almost 30 years) & I want to rediscover passion for living & enjoy every single moment I have. Appearance is sort of an easy thing to fix compared to the other areas of my life that I want to renew so I thought I would tackle that first. Thoughts? The other question I have is how can people possibly say that I don't need a facelift? The pics I am posting after chemo/radiation are particularly unflattering but I'm looking for validation that I'm a good candidate. I interviewed 4 plastic surgeons and 2 of them said I didn't need a facelift!?!? I don't get it!"- V. / RealSelf / May 27, 2016
"Very Natural, Great Results! - McLean, VA - I wanted to get a revision rhinoplasty to fix an initial rhinoplasty that I wasn't happy with. My bridge had been reduced too much compared to the tip, which still protruded too far from my face. I researched several doctors in my area before selecting Dr. Mesbahi. He has an incredible bedside manner, and I saw pictures of his work, so knew he was the best doctor for my surgery. I also asked him about liposuction under the chin, since that is another procedure I had always wanted done. He ended up performing both the revision rhinoplasty and neck liposuction all in one surgery, and I had very little bruising, and a very quick recovery time (about a week). It has now been a year since my surgery, and my results are so natural that no one has ever guessed that I had work done -- they just think I look great! I have had several follow-up visits with Dr. Mesbahi, and he and his staff are always so kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is considering plastic surgery. I have also started going to him for Botox treatments, and I have enjoyed the results of this as well. Highly recommend!!"- K. / RealSelf / Nov 11, 2014
am i a candidte for liposuction?
Fat removal surgery is a great treatment for individuals who are at an ideal weight but have stubborn pockets of fat that cannot be lost with even the most healthy lifestyle. Women and men interested in liposuction should have healthy, tight skin because liposuction is not a treatment for loose skin. It is also important to know that liposuction is not a solution for weight loss. Women having liposuction should have childbearing behind them as this could compromise the results. During your initial consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss realistic expectations.
what is Traditional Liposuction?
Surgical liposuction is performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. A punch-hole incision is placed in the skin and a cannula is inserted to help loosen the fat as it is being removed. Once the fatty deposits have been extracted, Dr. Mesbahi will close the small incision. Depending on the number of sections receiving treatment, your surgery could take several hours. After your procedure, you will be monitored for a short time and then released to go home.
what is Vaser Lipo?
VASER high-definition liposuction utilizes ultrasound-assisted energy to safely and effectively target fat cells. A huge advantage of VASER is that it offers three-dimensional results and enables Dr. Mesbahi to work in specific areas without harming the surrounding tissue. It is considered an outpatient procedure and is performed under general anesthesia. At the start of your procedure, a tumescent saline solution will be injected into the designated treatment area. Then, the handheld VASER device will be applied to transmit the ultrasound energy. This process will loosen the fat to enable a smooth extraction.
how long is recovery after liposuction?
The recovery period after liposuction will look different for everyone as it is dependent on the number of treatment areas being addressed and the amount of fat that was removed. Most patients can expect 1 – 3 weeks of recovery. Prior to your release, our office will also provide you with post-operative instructions to follow at home. It's normal to see bruising and swelling for one or two weeks, and sutures are generally removed 7 – 10 days after surgery. What is most important after your procedure is to allow your body time to recover and rest. When you are ready to go back to work, you should do your best to minimize stress and strenuous activity. To increase your strength and stamina, stick to light workouts and go for walks as approved by Dr. Mesbahi. Keep in mind, you may see some changes after six weeks, but it takes around 6 – 10 months until your new body contour and shape is attained.
What about loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only corrects excess fat. For loose skin, Dr. Mesbahi may recommend combining liposuction with a surgical body lift. Lipo is often done along with skin tightening surgery, like a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thighplasty, to give you your best results.
Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, incisions will be made and sutured. This will leave scars; however, Dr. Mesbahi does his best to reduce their appearance. This starts with making thin incisions in the natural folds of your body or in less visible areas. After your surgery, Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our team will teach you how to care for your incisions so they heal flat and eventually fade.
How long will my results last?
Before liposuction, it is important to be prepared to maintain your results. Although liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still gain and lose weight. Dr. Mesbahi recommends that you be at or near a healthy weight before having liposuction. Afterward, it's best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Pregnancy after liposuction will also affect your results; however, a second surgery can be done to refresh your appearance.
